| This is the first in a series of delightful children’s picture books aimed at three to ten year olds. The stories are based in the beautiful sunny island of Jamaica and follow the adventures of the central character Flashy Ant. Flashy Ant stirs the imagination by giving children an insight into the playful antics of Caribbean children before cable television and computers. Individually hand-painted illustrations spring to life with rich, vibrant colours.
About the Author
Dorrett D. Mckoy (Auntie Dee) was born in Jamaica where she grew up with her grandmother until the age of ten. She was then sent to join her mother in England where she spent most of the remainder of her childhood. Dorrett has never lost her passion for her homeland and still holds fond memories of those early childhood years. In 1980 when her daughter was three years old she was dissatisfied with the lack of representation in children’s stories, so she wrote her own.
As a young girl she was fascinated by nature and would sit for hours watching ants and other insects. It was therefore no surprise that her first stories should be based on the fictional lives of ants. Twenty-seven years later she finally decided to publish.
